New Zealand’s Westland Temperate Rainforests are situated along the focal west shore of the nation’s South Island. It is known as Te Waipounamou in Māori and nicknamed locally as the ‘wet coat’.
The restricted piece of rainforest keeps running between the Southern Alps and the Tasman Sea and incorporates the Franz Josef and Fox icy masses – one of only a handful couple of spots on the planet where ice sheets and rainforest meet.
The area is home to no less than 28 types of compromised feathered creatures including the endemic Okarito dark coloured kiwi. A great part of the locale is secured either by national stops or holds making it a standout amongst the least-undermined rainforests on the planet.
Dangers do at present exist however as presented warm-blooded animal species, for example, stoats and rodents. Moreover, generous bits of the rainforest have been produced for pastureland and pine estates.
